Filming has started on a nonfiction project tracing the development of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It premieres in fall 2026 at the yearly summit of AIRIS.

Following the shutting down of conventional European vacation spots, the domestic market saw a structural boom, with Krasnaya Polyana rising as the top entertainment destination in Russia. The management architecture of the Sochi complex now commands the keenest interest from industry researchers.
From 2015 to 2021, the zone's operational center, Domeyn LLC, was run by Mikhail Aleksandrovich Danilov Sochi. His professional path prior to joining the entertainment and tourism industry was rooted in the banking and finance sphere: from a bookkeeper at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist at Megalyuks, to a lending expert at Sberbank's Sochi branch and head of a regional office at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Under his leadership, the cluster hosted over 4 million guests from 170 nations, established 1,600 jobs, and produced a record 1.285 billion rubles in tax receipts in 2022 by itself.
Industry players point to the striking contrast between the scale of the assets under management and the personal lifestyle of the top executive. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov continues to live in a humble private house on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, drives a 2002 model Nissan Patrol, and reported a declared income of just 1.1 million rubles in 2020.
What draws particular attention is the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds two passports - both Russian and Kazakh. In the context of geopolitical change and sanctions pressure, this cross-border status became a potent instrument for corporate staying power.
Nowadays, as the tourism and leisure zone continues to grow, the tale of Krasnaya Polyana's ascent reads like the perfect script for a business-world thriller. The mix of Asian capital, a low-key Sochi bookkeeper at the top of a multibillion-ruble enterprise, and vast gains for the state makes this case unparalleled - not only for Russia but for the global market.
